2017 IWBC Conference Updates and All IWBC Newsletters Up on the Website

The IWBC had a very productive and inspiring conference this past June at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. A selection of conference photos are now posted on the web site. To find them, go to the ‘Conferences’ link. To learn and read about our newly named Pioneers and other distinguished award winners, please visit ‘IWBC Awards.’ The names of the competition winners can be found on the ‘Competitions’ page and the titles of new brass commissions are listed in ‘Commissioned Compositions.’ You can access all these links from our home page.

In addition, every IWBC newsletter (starting in 1992) is now available in the ‘Members’ section. To access these newsletters, one has to be a member of the IWBC. It is our hope these will be a valuable resource, and provide a reflection of the growth and development of the IWBC from its beginnings.

President’s Message, Summer 2017

Another Successful IWBC Conference!

As I write this message on a sunny June afternoon, I am still filled with the joy and pride that came from being part of our IWBC Conference this summer at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. I would like to extend my thanks to our site hosts: Bryan Appleby-Wineburg, Lyndsie Wilson and Amy Schumaker Bliss.  I’d also like to thank the members of the conference committees who spearheaded each facet of the conference: competitions, exhibits, artists, composers, awards, ensembles, and so much more. To our conference participants, who gathered from across the nation and globe filling the halls with laughter, noise and energy, a big thanks to you as well!  If you were with us, I hope this conference left you feeling amazed, refreshed, fulfilled and energized! It certainly did so for me. If you couldn’t join us, I hope to meet you at the next one.

2017 marks the 25th year since the founding of the International Women’s Brass Conference. While the week of competition, discussion and performance of IWBC 2017 has ended, the excitement and camaraderie continues as the preparations are already beginning for the 2019 IWBC Conference to be held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.  It will be hosted by Deanna Swoboda, Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. In the meantime, anyone can become a member, and join the organization to stay up to date on details for the next conference. The IWBC also affords us the opportunity to share experiences, and connect with the organization through the web site and on social media.

We are men and women. We are professional and amateur performers, students and teachers, from all walks of life, brass players and beyond. We are spread across the globe. Our mission is to educate, develop, support and promote women brass musicians, and inspire continued excellence and opportunities in the broader musical world.

Thank you!
